Deepening Your Intuition

One of the things I always recall from my yoga teacher training with Travis & Lauren was their guidance that the greatest teacher that ever existed is the teacher inside of you. For me this points towards our sense of Intuition. Intuition and the capacity to instruct from within have been foundational in finding my path, my voice, and my purpose.
Some time ago I filmed a Yin class titled ‘Intuition’. As I prepared for this class so many quotes about intuition surfaced:
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens”
– Carl Jung
“Intuition is a really sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life”
– Paula Coelho
I am currently in the midst of Master Coach Training and was introduced to the concept of four different types of Intuition. Each type begins with the word ‘Clair’ which in French means ‘Clear’. The four types are Clairvoyance connected to images/vision; Claircognizance connected to knowing; Clairsentience connected to feelings and Clairaudience related to hearing. The concept of there being four different types of intuition absolutely fascinated me! I recognized a connection to two of the four types of intuition and have noticed ways in which the little nudges of intuition guide me.
Intuition exists for each of us, however, when we are in our head, distracted and not connected to our bodies we lose touch with our intuition. We can connect with practices to reconnect with our sense of intuition. What better practice than yoga to get us out of our heads and back into our bodies truly in connection with all our senses?
You might ask yourself which of the four types of intuition resonates with you. A way that intuition comes in for me is when I’m at a restaurant and ordering food. I often have an inner knowing of what I want to order from the menu. And when I don’t follow that guidance, I’ve been disappointed with my meal! Other times I’ve thought of someone near and dear to me and noticed that I hear from them later that same day…even sometimes a few minutes later. I found that intuition has become important in my role as a Yoga Teacher as well as a Health Coach. Often while I’m in the midst of a conversation, practicing deep listening, either images or words will float into my awareness. Sometimes they are thoughts, and other times they are connected to my intuition. When there is a deep sense of peace and neutrality to an image or word that lands, I’ve often noticed it’s the pull of my intuition.
Intuition often comes in hints and whispers and being able to listen to that inner voice can take practice as well as building trust in your own sense of intuition. Here are some suggested practices to build that connection:
